Born on 17 August 1981, Henry Stewart Russell was the third son of Alexander Russell, a British Army officer, and his wife Jane. Raised as a strict Roman Catholic, Henry attended Ampleforth College and went on to study international relations at Yale University in the United States.

Henry left the armed forces in 2012 at the rank of captain, and wrote the widely-acclaimed memoir “All of Us,” documenting his upbringing and time in Afghanistan.

Henry met his wife, Jeanette, who is a schoolteacher, in 2004. The couple married in 2007 and have two children; Ellie, born in 2008, and Jack, born in 2009.

Henry was selected to contest the seat of East Devon for the Conservative Party in the 2015 general election, winning with a majority of 12,261. He later served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Brexit Secretary, Dominic Raab.

Henry is a passionate cricketer and rugby player; he is also a collector of classic automobiles, and a fan of Formula One.
