These local elections were a clear rebuke of this Government, their policies, and the parties that make it up. Nothing more and nothing less. While our economic growth stutters, inflation creeps up, and the most pressing constitutional questions of our time go unanswered the Government is doing nothing. Indeed when they actually rouse themselves long enough to do anything their only policy priorities are reforms without mandates that they dare not put to the public lest they reject them again. This Government's priorities are in all the wrong places and the public are showing them that by rejecting them at the ballot boxes. These results show that the public are tired of inaction and misplaced u-turns, they want proper Conservative Party leadership.

These local elections were a fantastic triumph for the Conservative Party. Over 20 Councils gained, a clear plurality of the vote share, and many thousands of hard working Conservative councillors up and down the country working for you and your communities. The message is simple, the country is ready for Tory leadership where this Prime Minister and her Government will not deliver it.

Congratulations must be extended to every Liberal Democrat councillor elected - Liberal Democrat councillors are renowned for working hard for every constituent, for delivering cost-effective and sustainable public services, for their excellent work on issues such as greening local government and preventing crime and poor public health. The base of our party is local government, as shown by our party's unerring commitment to localism and ensuring central government give councils the resources they need.

----

Once again, we were faced with murmurs of doom and wipe-out when facing an election, but we have, once again, shown that Liberal Democrats are strong and here to stay when it comes to local government. There were some difficult results, but our foundation for bouncing back remains strong. Congratulations to every successful candidate, thank you to every voter and activist, and commiserations to those candidates who came up short this time - there will be future opportunities.

Deputy Prime Minister
Liberal Democrat Leader
Foreign Secretary
Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Climate Change
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Technology

Policy - 48

This Government is running on empty, staggering from defeat to bloody defeat, humiliation to humiliation. The Prime Minister has had to withdraw one budget, sack a Chancellor, suffer the repeated disloyalty of her backbenchers, be humiliated in a by-election, and now she has been smashed at the polls in the local elections. The Conservatives gained 20 Councils and over 500 Councillors whilst Labour and the Liberal Democrats were driven back across the country. This Government is on its knees, the Conservative Party are the party ready to govern.

Well, this was mediocre. The Leader of the Opposition again continues his quantity approach to the press cycle, saying the same thing three separate times. It's a bit much, and you're ignored after saying the same thing over and over. Here's my message to the Tories: back up your leader and add some nuance, or risk being ignored even further.

The Deputy PM does a good job of spinning the results, and so Adiputera +1 media.
