Krupesh Hirani (NPC) - Brent & Harrow
Canvass

Krupesh Hirani, Assembly Member for Brent & Harrow, will canvas for his candidacy for the London Assembly and for Mayoral Candidate John McDonnell. Speaking about Labour’s plans for how to tackle violent crime and community investment in London.

Crime Reduction: We need a mayor who is serious about tackling crime in London. Josh McDonnell will expand Mayor Khan’s Violence Reduction Unit and create a second to continue to fight violent crime throughout all of London. Josh McDonnell understands that the relationship between police and communities they serve is very important and he will strive to continue the community policing initiatives. As Mayor, McDonnell will follow through on Mayor Khan’s plan to hire more police officers to make our communities safe. In total McDonnell will hire 1300 new police officers throughout London, and strive to make sure a majority will be from the communities they serve. Londoners deserve to be safe in their city. That’s why we need a mayor that is serious about tackling crime and addressing both crime and the causes of crime. Violence and Crime are preventable that’s why we need to move forward with a mayor ready to tackle crime in London.
Opposing Cuts and Expand Funding: The Tories nationally under Cameron and in London under Boris Johnson cut the number of police officers and made our streets less safe. As a member of the Cameron cabinet she supported the cuts that Osborne made to the number of police officers. Justine Greening didn’t fight to keep our streets safe then. How can she be trusted to keep them safe now? Only John McDonnell is willing to provide the necessary funding to prevent crime in this city. That’s why I am supporting McDonnell for mayor, he’s someone London can trust to fight the Tories urge to make cuts and make London less safe. We need someone who is willing to stand up to both parties if they ever try to cut police in London again. London can be the safest city in the UK, and only McDonnell is actually willing to work towards that reality.
Investment in Young Londoners: We have to go beyond just tackling crime with front line support by focusing on the causes of crime. Young people turn to knife crime because they feel they have little opportunities to improve their lives. Years of Tory cuts in education and youth activities have led to our streets being less safe. That is why we need a Mayor ready to make a real investment in the people in our society. We need to do more and have a real investment in community centers, job training programs, and youth activities. As Mayor Josh McDonnell will make the investments we need to address the causes of crime. McDonnell will expand the Mayor’s Young Londoner’s fund which will help create more youth organizations. Which will continue to pick up the slack from years of Tory cuts. McDonnell and Labour is the right answer for tackling crime and supporting the next generation.
