Harry Joseph Laski born 1st of May 1955 to Abe Laski b.1909-1973 and Saragh Flanagan b.1918-2001. Harry's father was a Spanish Civil War veteran and later a transport worker, CPGB member and trade unionist. Harry's mother was an Irish immigrant who worked in the nursing sector. Harry was the sixth out of seven of the families children and their youngest son.

Leaving school at 18 Harry became a postman and later a shop steward in his twenties, he rose through the ranks of the union structure to become General Secretary of the Union of Communication Workers later the CWU between 1992 and 1997.

Known in the press as Red Harry or the Red Postman for his vocal support of trade union rights and fighting their erosion by the Tories and New Labour.
Harry maintained links with his local clp and replaced his friend Harry Cohen in 1997 as MP for Leyton and Wanstead, A member of the SCG he is known for being on the left and took part in several rebellions during the 1997-2001 Labour government. Laski is a vocal opponent of the spin politics of New Labour and has called for Labour leadership to reconnect with its grassroots.
