It is clear that the Conservative Party are in a full on panic. Their Shadow Budget was such a disaster that they have turned to the man who... wrote it... having knifed their leader and run on to the next shiny toy in the play chest. The Conservative Party are attempting to advocate for local people, and for local police, which would be fine if their Shadow Budget hadn't just completely thrown all of that under the bus in pursuit of tax cuts for bankers. The Tory Shadow Budget froze the countryside regeneration budget, harming our villages. The Tory Shadow Budget gave no new money to flood defences, leaving our towns defenceless. The Tory Shadow Budget could barely manage £500mn for security not linked to throwing out immigrants. This is not a Conservative Party that cares about our local communities and it is not one that cares about our police force. Calamity Croft may have been hung out to dry by Sir Nicholas but a new coat of paint and a flashy, unaffordable, new policy does not make up for decades of neglect and idleness when it comes to our rural and suburban communities.

It was a personal privilege to speak to the Beveridge Group about the Liberal Answer to New Labour. We do not oppose New Labour by becoming more Toryish than they are, we oppose them by playing to the liberal ideals. Cutting taxes, investing in communities, and empowering individuals is the liberal message at the heart of the Liberal Democrats and it is one that I am proud to continue to champion as leader. Whether it's taking millions out of paying any income taxes at all, putting 20,000 police officers back on the beat, or building local government that works for local people the Liberal Democrats are pursuing the national priorities with a locally-sourced and focused agenda. That's how we build a genuinely three party democracy.

Delighted to be taking up the role of Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Energy & Rural Affairs, as a member of parliament for a rural constituency I know the need to conserve and protect our green and pleasant land is vital more than ever. The Conservative party will fight for a vision of greener Britain

Climate Change Levy unfairly hits the average working family while the biggest energy users are able to lobby and cut deals not to pay the levy, the Conservative party doesn't think that is fair, Labour is increasing the bills for average family. The Climate change levy targets energy use not CO2 or other green house gas emissions which are the contributory factor to climate change. The Conservative Party will be bringing forward workable solutions to address the challenges facing our environment. Under the current model cleaner gas and clean nuclear are not given any advantage price over coal for example. The focus of the Climate change levy on energy also disadvantages key industries like metal production which we will need to build the green infrastructure in the 21st century, the Conservative party do not believe you fight climate change by making the solutions to climate change more expensive.

Whilst the Conservative position can make sense when you squint at it in terms of the Climate Change levy that does not excuse the complete failure to act by Sir Nicholas and the Conservatives on every other aspect of environmental policy. The Tory Shadow Budget froze every environmental budget, including invaluable budgets for our rural communities such as countryside regeneration, energy efficiency schemes, and anti-flooding measures. I welcome Mr Jones' commitment to green but the Conservative Party have a long way to go before they can be taken remotely seriously on any green issues.

The Conservative Party will be pushing the government to end the sell off of county farms, County farms are farms owned by local authorities who rent the land out to farmers, usually young farmers to give them a step on the first rung of the ladder. At present councils can dispose of county farms in a short termist way to seek cash. County farms could help provide solutions to many problems our local councils face such as boosting healthy eating, securing local food chains, boosting rural employment, providing adult social care activities and protecting the environment, county farms are a great resource and should be protected for the benefit they bring to the farming sector and local communities. The Conservative party would put a ban on the sale of county farm stocks unless the sale is to fund greater area of land purchase for county farms and that councils would be required to develop sustainable management plans to secure this key resource for a future generation of farmers and our nation. The Conservative party is committed to delivering environmentally sustainable and innovative farming for a greener Britain.

Rebecca Flair absolutely spot-on speaking to fellow Beveridge Group members earlier. We need to keep working hard for our communities and show "how a modern, liberal state doesn't just mean a Tory state with a slightly sunnier disposition" better than ever. We are by nature in this party optimists, and people with a belief that our party and institutions have a higher purpose, and having a leader so able to unite those on all flanks of the party is remarkable. There are a lot of bloody-minded individualists in the Liberal Democrats, myself one of them, and it takes some real character to be doing such a good job as Flair is. I've never had better feedback on the doorstep.

Speaking to ALDC earlier was a remarkable privilege, as few organisations have contributed as much to the liberal cause as they have. And what I said there is something I want to echo to anyone in this country who is a liberal, who has liberal values, and who believes in that decent moderate centre ground - we need you now more than ever. We can win, and we can transform this country, but as with all things in our party, it must start in our own local communities. We are neck and neck with the Tories in the polls nationally, and campaigning far harder than Labour locally, as we really care about local government. My message is simple - Labour are unambitious, the Tories are chaotic, the Liberal Democrats have a unique chance to win the next local elections and show them what we think.

Alex Cardigan is a disgrace. Anybody who speaks the oath to Her Majesty under protest because they don’t believe that we are governed democratically is a complete and utter fool. This country is governed democratically. Rebecca FLIAR'S Lib Dems think it isn’t because they aren’t any good at winning elections

I'm proud to have introduced legislation in Parliament that would help reform the role that police authorities and the police themselves have in combatting crime in our communities. Rather than asking police to be the only ones responding to crimes, engaging the community- the public, service providers, and victims alike- can help us identify problem areas BEFORE crime is committed, and do what we can to tackle the causes of crime rather than focus just on the number of officers we'll hire or the number of prisons we'll build.

Bringing all community players together to tackle crime will do far more to actually make Britain safer than it will fighting over the number of officers hired in a year. That's why I'm proud to be a part of a Government that is taking this approach to giving police more tools to help combat crime. No more do we have to hope police can handle criminals without support; instead, by having mental health professionals, educators, victims, representatives of the community, and elected officials working together towards a common goal, we can work to cut back on the number of crimes happening at all. I look forward to the discussions over this legislation over the next few days and, ultimately, towards passage of legislation that will help make British communities safer for all.
