EDM 3: Independence of the Monetary Policy Committee

That this House calls upon Her Majesty's Government to further enhance the independence of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee by ending the right of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to solely appoint the four external members of the committee, and transfer responsibility for their confirmation to the Treasury Select Committee, and therefore to the scrutiny of Parliament.
