Carlo was born to working class parents in Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, his father and mother ran a chip shop and ice cream parlour having moved down from Scotland. While his parents own their own business they were not very well off and Carlo would consider himself working class from the community he grew up. His parents were secular so Carlo had a typical agnostic British upbringing. Attending local school and comp, Carlo excelled at school and had a passion for helping others volunteering as a teenager in the local community. Carlo attend Cambridge and obtained a medical degree, he worked for a short time after graduating working on a&e wards. Carlo decided to specialise as an eye doctor in the early 90s's and studied at the West London Eye Hospital.
Due to a chance meeting a patient who worked in tv who noticed Carlo for his swarthy good looks and charm he was asked to be a talking head on this morning, Carlo in the late 90s and 00s would regularly appear on tv on issues to do with eye care or sometimes other general medical issues with loss women being his favourite show to appear on. Carlo hosted a 3 part BBC 4 documentary on vision in 2004. Carlo saw a brief decline in his tv appearances after his brothers Gianni and Beppe were arrested for using the family ice cream van to sell drugs. Carlo condemned his brothers and wrote a scathing attack on drugs calling for harsher sentences and spoke out against any decriminalisation which got favourable coverage in red tops.
Carlo joined the Labour party at university, and was part of the Socialist Health Association served on the Labour party NEC before being selected to fight Scunthorpe in 2010 after the expenses scandal befell Elliot Morley.
Carlo spoke out against the health and social care act 2012 in a much publicised speech although eloquent and logical it failed to stop the act being passed by the snakes in the con-dem coalition.
Currently Carlo works part time at as a doctor and serves on the Health Select Committee.
Carlo is part of the blue labour group and has spoken in support of its aims, he also has ties to open labour and socialist campaign group favouring worker ownership, slight euro scepticism and law and order.
