Researcher and campaigner Sir James McCrimmon has been MP for Chesham and Amersham since 2016. Born and raised in London, he was sent by his parents to Gordonstoun, where he fell in love with the natural world, both on the seas and in the forests. After getting into Merton College, Oxford, he received a first in PPE. He was active in the Oxford University Conservative Association and Tory Reform Group, serving as President of the latter during the 2005-2006 term.

He served for a year as a researcher in CCHQ on transport issues until resigning for "personal issues" in the summer of 2007, a move that he has privately attributed to his displeasure of Cameron's summer reshuffle. He took severance from the Campaign for Better Transport in 2009 as they downsized, which he took as a chance to return to academia, and he received his MSc in Environment, Politics, and Development from King's London. As he prepared to graduate, he was asked to join the team at the think tank Bright Blue, where he oversaw research functions until his election to the Commons. He was an editor and writer that focused on larger works on modernisation and some smaller works on the environment and sustainability. He also founded Bright Blue's famed Drink Tank networking events. Throughout this period, he remained as a volunteer campaigner in London with Friends of the Earth, serving during 2009-2010 as Chair of the Lambeth chapter.

In 2013, he was selected as PPC for Chesham and Amersham, winning the seat in 2015. He previously worked in Buckinghamshire for the Campaign for Better Transport. In the Commons, he was briefly PPS to DEFRA Ministers George Eustice and Rory Stewart before resigning in October 2016 to oppose the Government's Heathrow plans. He serves on the Commons Transport Select Committee.

Outside of the Commons, McCrimmon is a frequent reader, a known railfan, and a good cook. His publications include a chapter on sustainable local policy in the Centre for Policy Studies's "New Blue: Ideas for a New Generation" as well as a number of articles for various print and online periodicals.

He is the recipient of two honours, an MBE for work in the field of environmental sustainability in 2010, and a Knight Bachelor for his policy leadership in 2014. (OOC: Approved by Mac as replacement for normal knighthood.)
