Born in London, to a middle class family who owned a few clubs and bars throughout the city. Kingston inherited his father's charisma and business sense but honed his skills to a greater level. By 1994, and at the age of 18, he was promoting small events for his father's company, Kingston Entertainment Group (or KEG), rubbing shoulders with some minor celebrities and future stars, while earning a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the London School of Economics, and sometimes enjoying the London party scene too much. By the age of 24 he was running a club for his father, and with the use of his prowess and knowledge, he was building relations with powerful people, as well as growing the family business to greater heights. In 2004, KEG had become one of the biggest entertainment and events groups in the UK, owning some of the best clubs, and promoting some of the top events throughout the country. Kingston had helped his father grow the business to become more organised and corporate, earning the title of Executive Director for Promotions & Events.

In his mid-thirties, feeling the industry and culture was passing him by, Kingston decided to take a step back from the family business. He took more of a hands off role in the company, and shifted his attention to making a change in politics. He worked closely with the Conservative Party in its business and trade policy during the Opposition years under David Cameron, and managed to win selection to run as the MP for Finchley and Golders Green - roles that were all helped by his connections with the Notting Hill Sect. He was successful in the 2010 General Election, regaining the seat from Labour with a majority of 5,809 over Alison Moore.

As an MP he was a staunch supporter of the now Prime Minister, Cameron, which saw him rewarded by being appointed as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Small Business, Consumers and Labour Markets in the September 2012 Cabinet Reshuffle. He continued his work for the Conservatives' business side of policy here, eventually rising to the post of Minister of State for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise, from May 2015 to July 2016, and then as Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, from July 2016 to January 2018, under Theresa May. Most recently he served in May's Cabinet as the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, from January 2018 to April 2019. He was brought in due to family ties to the country, and a better understanding than most of his peers of the situation in the province. Here he worked to restore the suspended Northern Irish Assembly, and improve the country's public sector heavy economy.
