Business of the House

"Order!" The Speaker's chair is where Members will take their Oath of Allegiance, raise Points of Order, and listen attentively to what the Speaker has to say. It is also where the Leader of the House will announce the business of the House.

Business of the House
1. Notification of Business

The Prime Minister or Leader of the House shall be required to post the topic of any forthcoming legislation or ministerial statements here. They shall then be able to post the legislation or ministerial statement 24 hours later. At a minimum the information that they post should include:

Topic or Title: The topic of the statement or title of the legislation.
Type of Business: Legislation/Statement/Motion
Minister responsible: The minister responsible for introducing the legislation.

2. Opposition response

The Leader of the Opposition or Shadow Leader of the House shall designate a member of the Opposition frontbench to give the official opposition response to all government business here. The designated individual shall be responsible for giving that response within the first 72 hours, but ideally within the first 48 hours, of debate.
