Recall of MPs (Amendment) Act 2020

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

AN ACT to further extend the power of local constituents to recall their Member of Parliament under section 1(1) of the Recall of MPs Act 2015.

Key provisions:
-Amends Section 1 of the 2015 Act so that switching from political party affiliation in the House of Commons in the middle of a parliamentary term is added to the list of reasons that cause the Speaker of the House of Commons to trigger an automatic petition for a recall by-election under the terms of the Recall of MPs Act 2015.
-Maintains the current 10% threshold as set out under the 2015 Act to force a recall by-election.
-This Act retroactively applies to one year from the date it is signed by Her Majesty the Queen.
