Some Guidance on the use of the Press Office

Some Guidance on the use of the Press Office

Here's a few lines of guidance from us on how to use the Press Office:

1. Don't leave attacks unattended, but don't overdo it. The way we mark the Press Office is that attacks result in negative momentum for the party that gets attacked. That means that if you get attacked, the only way to stop yourself losing momentum, aside from activity in another field, is to directly address the attacks. So keep an eye on the Press Office and make sure you don't leave attacks unattended. At the same time, don't overdo it and escalate into a repetitive argument - once an argument gets repetitive and it's essentially the same angle in different words, we'll stop giving PRs impact anyway. It's no use, it only annoys us.

2. Coordinate, but spread your attention. An effective press office strategy is often to coordinate PR offensives backing up an attention-grabbing speech or initiative with a large number of PRs. However, don't all say the same thing, or indeed focus on one issue to the exclusion of all others. Focusing on the same thing risks getting repetitive and we'll be very strict about marking down or even neutralising repetitive PRs.

3. Use your judgment and read our feedback. We don't give our feedback for nothing. It may spell out more or less directly how you can improve or detract form an argument. If we say a debate has died down, and people are moving on, please move on. Try to ask yourselves with each PR you post: did someone make this point before? Do people still care? Will the marking AV cry when he opens this in the 20th post of his marking round?

4. Spamming doesn't work - it only annoys us. The momentum numbers represent a snapshot, so don't feel like you need to spam just ahead of the marking round. It annoys your fellow players, you when the opposition hits you back, and most of all, the poor sod assigned to the marking round. We love some activity, but don't stretch it.

5. Don't go all negative. It's important to tell people what you would do beter. Negative PRs work, but they also lead to negativity from your opponents. Believe me, I've seen marking rounds that had a lot of negative PRs and ended up with both parties in negative momentum numbers. Not helpful if you want to get to the rewards threshold.
