REDMAYNE: NO CASE FOR NO CONFIDENCE

WESTMINSTER - Sir Daniel Redmayne, the Minister without Portfolio and Chairman of the Conservative Party, spoke today in the House of Commons as part of the debate on the motion of no-confidence proposed by Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn. Sir Daniel spoke in opposition to Corbyn’s motion, arguing that it was a “stunningly shameless piece of political opportunism” and that a general election at this time would distract from the important task of negotiations about the future relationship with the European Union.

Sir Daniel also spoke enthusiastically to champion the Conservative government’s record since 2010 by highlighting its “solid record of success” in turning the United Kingdom around from the crisis it inherited from Labour in 2010. Sir Daniel noted government achievements in reducing unemployment and taxation, helping people with the cost of living and protecting the environment. Of particular note, Sir Daniel said he was “proud that we’ve delivered the biggest cash boost in history for our NHS, meaning that we’ll see an additional £20 billion per year until the end of 2024.”

Sir Daniel concluded his remarks by saying that Jeremy Corbyn and Labour MPs “have failed to make a decent case for themselves, their party and for a general election at all.”

REDMAYNE HONOURED TO TAKE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL CARE BRIEF

WESTMINSTER - Sir Daniel Redmayne, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Health, Education and Social Care, reacted to being given the role by the new Prime Minister Arthur Stanley. Speaking at his office, Sir Daniel said “It is an honour to be appointed as Secretary of State for Health, Education and Social Care. This role has great responsibility for our national wellbeing and in enacting policies that will benefit all people from their early life chances through to their retirement.”

In the policy areas relevant to his new role, Sir Daniel said that over the last decade, the current Conservative government “has provided the biggest cash boost for NHS spending in our history, overseen improvement of standards and parental choice in education and begun addressing how to reform social care.” Within these remarks, Sir Daniel further agreed with the assessment of the new Prime Minister that the current post-Brexit moment is an exciting, positive one for the United Kingdom and that the new government will move forward to deliver a more prosperous and safer country where poorer communities receive investment and support.

Regarding his own priorities in his new role, Sir Daniel also said “I will focus on making sure our NHS continues to benefit from our record investment, on further strengthening educational standards, improving life chances for early years and children as well as delivering positive changes in social care.” Concluding his remarks, Sir Daniel added that he was pleased to be continuing in his role as Chairman of the Conservative Party.
