Re: Environment & Energy Questions
Madam Speaker,
Wildlife in this country is under threat, despite the vital importance of protecting the unique and rare species that our nation is known for. In large part this is due to environmental degradation. Would the Secretary of State be willing to look into proposals to re-forest parts of Britain's ancient woodlands, and look into re-introduce lost species to our wildlands, including Saddleworth Moor?

Re: Environment & Energy Questions
I apologise to the Honourable Gentleman. The Environment Secretary is unable to be here today, so I will have to answer for him.
The government makes not just protecting but strengthening the environment a key priority. The proposals floated by the Honourable Gentleman are interesting, and the government will be happy to take them on board and consider them.

Madame Speaker
County farms since the 19th century have been a route for young farmers to enter the industry. With a rising average age of farmers and the decline in county farm holdings, will the government agree with these benches it is time to end the ability of local councils to sell of county farms.

Madame Speaker
Does the government believe that it is fair that under Labours Climate Change Levy the biggest polluters are able to strike to deals to lower their bills while the British family has to pay higher bills?

The instability of the middle east and the finite nature of fossil fuels shows us energy security is more vital than ever, what measures are the government taking to secure British energy security?

We recognize that local authorities are under increasing pressure with regards to land space supply, however the use of county farms should be encouraged where possible.

This Government is committed to tackling climate change and the climate change levy on polluters is a key aspect to that fight.

The government supports the expansion of nuclear energy in the United Kingdom, and we are exploring ways to support that expansion. To provide greater energy security in the UK we must look at energy production from a holistic approach and find ways for energy production to be increased from a variety of energy sources, such as nuclear, wind, tidal, etc
