Beauvais-Becker Speech to announce her leadership campaign

Good afternoon everyone,

First, I would like to start with a moment of silence for Charles Kennedy and John Prescott. They were ferocious advocates for their communities and beliefs and even if we disagree with them that deserves respect in these times where most politicians are out there for themselves.

Thank you everyone, so let’s begin. I am Cosette Beauvais-Becker, I was born, raised in this great town and I live here. I have been honoured to represent in the Commons over 4 years and I am a proud mother, wife, former prosecutor and daughter of a working class family. When we look at my life story, it is an embodiment of what Conservative Party seeks to do and what has been granted to me by the Conservative Party. I was a hard working girl who managed to do right and become one of the most prominent Crown prosecutors in the country and this couldn’t have been possible without conservative policies. I went to a grammar school then I went to a university and I was afforded this opportunity despite my familial background and finances. I owe it to conservative policies to be where I am today and standing in front of you and I am proud to say it.

As we look around we can see what makes Britain so beautiful and great. It’s towns like these, its rural areas surrounding it and cities that are close to it. Our nation is beautiful but it has also seen better times, times where working class families actually did better, I know this all too well because I was raised in one of them and frankly the way things are going on in this country is not sustainable, levels of immigration in our communities are skyrocketing, our public services are getting worse and worse each day and while the political and financial establishment is getting richer and stronger each passing day while the rest of us are struggling more and more. We have to do a reset before it gets too late. Now, you might have heard that I have proposed a plan for it, voluntary repatriation. This plan is very simple, we will offer financial incentives to people who want to leave and that is it. Because, folks things have been hard for them as well, arriving to a country that they have very little idea, different culture and in many cases a different language, only with a dream that was crushed because our country is simply does not have the capacity to provide such dreams to this level of people and both these immigrants and British people are stuck in this cycle of mediocrity which is manifesting itself in gang crime, violent crime and high levels of unemployment and loitering. We need to resolve this issue fast because we are reaching a point of no return in this country where I fear leading to much worse consequences.

Conservative Party has to offer an alternative for Britain and right now, we are offering none, what we are offering is we are not Labour which is not enough. We have to reconfigure ourselves, find our ethos, find our mission and I can assure everyone I am a woman on a mission. When I am pushing these policies I believe in, I remind to myself a quote by Mrs. Thatcher, which my opponent claims to be a fervent follower of, says “If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing." I want to achieve something, I want to return Conservative Party where it belongs; to the government but right now my opponent and frankly some whom I regard as clowns seek out to be liked by everyone and achieve nothing. We can not achieve anything if we pursue to be liked, we have to provide an alternative to Britain, one that people can believe in, one that people can count on and that is what I intend to do.

This is not just about immigration, it is about European Union, we have to force them to deregulate or we have to leave. It is also about death penalty, we must bring back to restore natural order in things. Just like it is about how the Conservative Party conducts itself, right now we are not trusted because frankly from our leaders to many select and important members of are caught with their hands in proverbial cookie jar, I can not find it in myself to repeat what they have done in such a public setting with children but we all know what they have done. We have to fight for morality and decency, Netherlands is legalising marriage between two men or two women and this wave might take Europe along with it and EU might want to force it upon us just like they did with European Convention on Human Rights and Blair and some in our party would love to accept it under the name of Cult of Europe where they preach on it.

Frankly when I started this campaign I never thought I would be uttering these words but our party is under real danger, we have members of this party that is waging a war on the Pound, claiming they are not pro-pound which means they are anti-pound and these people are openly declaring that they won’t serve under my leadership which is something I certainly won’t extend to anyone who is not unabashedly pro-pound but these anti-pound forces are coalescing around my opponent and they made it clear what will be their price, a referendum on Euro. Hellbent on making Euro our currency and dumping the pound and frankly I am scared that my opponent does not have the backbone to disavow it. He took time to disavow my proposal for a voluntary repatriation and did actually threaten to kick me out of the party explicitly but he couldn’t take a time of his day to disavow this referendum or anti-pound forces within the party. Anti-pound forces in the party are repeatedly attacking me knowing that they can’t bully me into submission and my opponent, well he certainly looks like won’t say anything about it which to me indicates a willingness to accept it if it’s going to make him a leader.

My pitch to you my friends is simple, if you want a Conservative Party that will clean our house first then vote for me, if you want a Conservative Party that stands for good public services, sensible regulations vote for me, if you want a Conservative Party that is unabashedly pro-pound vote for me because my friends to steal a line from the wretched Tony, we have 24 hours to the pound and the clock is ticking and my opponent might not be there for to save it.

Oh, Cosette, we were nearly there. We almost had an entire speech go by without making an inflammatory remark. Yes, your policy on voluntary repatriation is to the right of orthodoxy, slightly, and your comments on gang violence are just about teetering into being inappropriate for polite society (not that you care much about that), but you basically held on. Until you called your colleagues clowns. A word to the wise: if you're going to propose radical policies which fall somewhere outside of the Overton Window of Political Possibility, then you need to couch it extremely carefully in placid, milquetoast rhetoric. The people who will be excited by those kinds of policies will still be excited, even if you speak about them in a boring way; and, when advocating extremes, you will find that the response is always going to be polar.

This is Cosette's strategy in the leadership race: motivate the red-meat base to vote for me, to hell with the rest. This has been successful in the past, but it demands that your base be large enough, and your opponents demotivated enough. To have demotivated opponents, you need two things to fall into place: first, your opponent must not engender any kind of strong feeling in their supporters; and, second, you cannot rile your opponent's supporters up to the point that they vote just to stop you from winning. In this election, the first element is basically true: William Croft is not the kind of figure that makes getting out the vote easy; but Cosette is such a polarizing figure, with her fiery use of rhetoric, that anyone who is not a die-hard Monday Clubber is prepared to hit the polls hard, and sell memberships to their family and friends, just to stop her from becoming the Leader of the Opposition.

Still, Cosette gives her supporters what they want and cements herself as a leader, if not the leader, of the Monday Club crew.

Cosette wins 3 XP, but really doesn't do herself many favours in the leadership election.
